Local SEO Audit: Analyse Your Visibility and Find the Next Fix

Run a local SEO audit of your profile, website, listings and customer journey. Record evidence, prioritise fixes and use the free checklist.

A local SEO audit checks whether customers can find the right business, trust its information, and complete an action. Start with a specific location and service. A single score cannot explain whether a missing phone call came from poor visibility, inaccurate opening hours, or a broken booking form.

Turn the findings into a working schedule with the local SEO action planner. Set your weekly capacity, assign owners and save a work file to keep your progress.

Start with an evidence sheet

Record the business name, location or service area, website, Business Profile link, audit date and person responsible. Keep screenshots and exact URLs beside each finding. Separate something you observed from something you suspect. “Booking button returns an error on mobile” is actionable; “Google does not trust us” is not a diagnosis.

Use the interactive audit checklist to record pass, fix, unknown and not-applicable answers. It organises a manual review; it does not crawl your website or access your Google account. Export the results before leaving the page.

Inspect the customer journey

  • Search for the business by name and confirm that the correct location appears.
  • Check the map pin, public address, phone, regular hours and upcoming exceptions.
  • Follow the website and appointment links on a phone. Confirm that they lead to the intended location and available service.
  • Check the landing page's content, contact details and action buttons. Test a form only in an agreed test environment or stop before submission.
  • Compare how the same information appears on the important directories your customers actually use.

Separate Maps from website performance

Use local rank tracking for location-sensitive observations and Search Console for website query and page reporting. A map result at one coordinate is not a city-wide rank. Search impressions are not visits, and a website click is not a qualified lead. Keep the same query, geography, device and reporting window when comparing observations.

Prioritise by the consequence

Fix incorrect contact details, inaccessible booking and accidental indexing blocks first. Next address missing service information, unsuitable categories and weak location pages. Record low-confidence ranking theories as experiments, with a baseline and a review date. Do not make a dozen unrelated edits and then attribute the next improvement to one of them.

An illustrative audit of a two-location repair company finds that both profiles point to the same generic contact page. One branch also shows last year's holiday hours. The immediate repair is accurate hours and the correct destination for each branch. A new blog calendar can follow after those customer problems are resolved.

Turn the audit into a work order

For every issue, specify the affected page or profile, evidence, proposed change, owner and acceptance check. Review completion separately from outcomes: a repaired link can be verified today; its contribution to leads takes subsequent observation.
