How to Choose a Local SEO Agency

Evaluate a local SEO agency's diagnosis, scope, account access and reporting. Use practical questions to compare proposals and clarify responsibilities.

Choose an agency by the clarity of its diagnosis, deliverables and measurement. A credible proposal should explain what it will change, why that work fits your business and how you will verify completion.

Request a specific diagnosis

Share the important services, locations and business constraints. Ask the provider to identify a small number of observed problems using exact pages or profiles. A generic list of ranking factors is not a finding. Look for a distinction between evidence, assumptions and recommendations.

Check how the work will operate

Ask who approves business facts and publishes changes, who retains account ownership, how staff receive support and what happens at the end of the engagement. Confirm whether copywriting, development, photography and platform fees are included. Request a clear response route for urgent errors such as a wrong closure status.

Assess the reporting

A useful report separates work delivered, search visibility and customer outcomes. Ask how the agency will distinguish brand searches, map observations, website enquiries and completed sales. A proprietary visibility score should come with its definition and missing-data rules.

In an illustrative proposal review, one supplier promises “hundreds of citations” while another identifies the wrong booking URL at two branches and supplies a repair plan. The second example makes its immediate value easier to assess, though the full scope and cost still need review.

Evaluate claims and examples

Ask for relevant evidence with dates and context. Case studies from other businesses are not guaranteed forecasts for yours. Be cautious about guaranteed rankings, paid review schemes or ownership arrangements that make it difficult to leave.
